My Perfect Weekend... |
|
| On our last visit to Long Beach the first thing my boyfriend and I did was go on a Gondola Ride. The Gondola ride was so cool; it was just like the one in Venice. The gondoliers wore the traditional garb: striped shirts and neck scarves and hats. We suspect the gondoliers may actually be Italian, or at least, of Italian descent. The gondola ride starts from the dock near Bay Shore and Ocean Boulevard. Guests are greeted with a basket of bread, cheese and salami. We brought our own wine; they uncorked it for us and also provided us with glasses. The gondola ride takes you across the bay and into the Naples canals where it's very peaceful and serene. The gondolier actually sang in Italian under bridges where the acoustics are good. Not all gondoliers sing though; some just play some music. After an hour, we were taken back to the dock where we can see other couples looking happier than when they arrived. The next day my boyfriend and I decided join the Harbor Cruise tours and go whale watching. The cat-hull boat was very comfy. There were snack bars and restrooms on board. We were able to spot mists in the distance. That signaled to us that whales were quite near. We were able to see the whales up close (when they come up for air) when our boat came near them. Sometimes whales come up for air and dive back so fast. Fortunately the boat goes really fast and we were able to get close before the dove down again. |
